WILDERNESS COTTAGE

A short mile or so from the winery, over the saddle of a low ridge and at the end of a meandering country road, is the storybook-like Wilderness Cottage. Situated in a private valley at the edge of a meadow bordering Althouse Creek, the cottage is an unparalleled retreat. Completely isolated and wonderfully private, the location appeals to those with a yen for solitude and reflection. An intrepid woods-walker could venture up to a hundred miles into the wilderness without running into another living soul

Dominated by a towering stone chimney fashioned from local river rock, Wilderness Cottage sleeps up to eight people. Choose from the master bedroom downstairs, two intimate bedrooms on the upper floor, or a sofa sleeper in the private office off the kitchen. The office will appeal to writers, poets, business people, and artists. Front and side decks open onto a horizon between dense forest and expansive sky, perfect sites for relaxing, enjoying the time of day, or barbequing dinner. Across the driveway, the meadow and alder-studded creek attract the eye. A footpath leads through the woods to the winery. Blackberries are abundant in August. Unlimited creek walking is a tempting delight year round.

Imagine a vast calm night, a star encrusted sky, the moon about to rise. There is no wind, no sound but the rushing of the creek, a symbol of passing time, and a thing understood rather than heard, inevitable, eternal. Then a faint breeze, barely a breath, finding its way into your remote valley, bringing the mingled perfume of forest and moss and meadow and all the calm green life silently teeming within your enclosed paradise.
